The Garment Labour Union (GLU) Celebrates International Workers’ Day

The COVID-19 pandemic and the nationwide lockdown has not stopped garment workers from celebrating International Workers’ Day, in Bangalore. 

The members and supporters of Garment Labour Union (GLU) celebrated Workers Day by displaying workers’ day posters at their homes with their near and dear ones, while maintaining social distancing norms. 

The main demands from workers’ this international workers’ day were – job security, payment of wages for the Covid-19 lockdown period, maintenance of the 8-hour workday and provision of healthcare and foodgrains for all workers. 

Workers criticized the new labour codes, introduced  by the Karnataka government which intends to extend working hours from 8 to 12 hours.
