The 17th Bremen Solidarity Award

It gives us immense pleasure to inform that Rukmini, the President of Garment Labour Union (GLU), has been awarded the prestigious 17th Bremen Solidarity Award this year (2021) for her application focusing on violence and discrimination against women. She would be receiving this award in the wonderful historic City Hall of Bremen which is part of The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)-World Heritage.

A sculpture by the Bremen artist Bernd Altenstein will be awarded along with the cash prize

The regional government of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen has been awarding the ‘Bremen Solidarity Award’ since 1988, to people working in the field of human rights, freedom, democracy, racism and the consequence of colonialism. This award focuses on sensitising and encouraging action against the injustice faced by people all around the globe. This international award is presented every two years to people campaigning in these fields with a sum of 10,000 Euros. The first laureates of the award were the South African President Nelson Mandela and his wife Winnie.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our partners and networks for helping us achieve this award. The entire team of GLU and Rukmini are forever grateful to you all and would work hard to soar to greater heights.
