Garment Labour Union had organised a silent protest ‘Women in Black’, as part of International Women’s Day on 7 March 2020. Workers from different factories in Peenya Industrial Area, Bangalore had participated in the event. The event concluded with the condemnation of violence against women through lighting candles. Some of the core demands of GLU to the governing bodies were –
- Ratification of the International Labour Organisation (ILO)-190 in India
- Stop Gender-Based Violence (GBV) at work
- Implement
‘The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013’ in factories
- Enforce ‘Equal Pay for equal work’ in factories.
