May Day was organized by the Garment Labor Union (GLU) on 1st important one as the day recognizes the significant contribution of the workers. The day also reminds the workers about labor rights and other entitlements. The ultimate aim is to empower the workers to organize themselves, network with the appropriate stakeholders and access their rights and entitlements. Around 500 workers gathered on this day. It was organized in collaboration with Centre of Indian Unions (CITU).
The day began with a rally that started from Town Hall, which is in the heart of the city and the rally passed through all the main roads and ended at Freedom Park near Race Course Road. At the Freedom Park, a public meeting was held. Rukmini V.P, President, Garment Labour Union (GLU) addressed the gathering and spoke about issues faced by garment workers and there is an urgent need to organize themseves as a union and collectively raise their voice against attrocities faced by them.
