International workers’ day celebration 2019

Garment Labour Union (GLU) Bangalore affiliated to HMS has celebrated the International Workers’ Day on May 1st 2019. 1000 garment workers from different garment factories in Bangalore has joined the workers rally organised by Garment Labour Union (GLU) from Kanteerava Studio Signal to TVS Cross Laggere , Peenya. The rally ended up with a public meeting in which special invitees and speakers were Mr. RV Harish – HMS State President, Mr. Sreekantamurthy – State level Working President, HMS, Mr. Naganath State Secretary of HMS, Mrs. Rukmini VP- President of GLU, Mrs. Saroja K – Secretary of GLU. The main demands of GLU in 2019 Workers’ day were:

1.       Give minimum wage of 18,000 to the Garment Workers in Karnataka

2.       Set up a separate department for Garment Workers in Labour Department

3.       Implement 2013 Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act in Garment factories

4.       Eliminate Gender Based Violence from Supplier factories

5.       All Brands should meet with Women Leadership Committee (WLC) of Asia Floor Wage Alliance to address the Gender Based Violence in Garment Supply Chains
